چکیده

We propose an advanced thermal-moisture analogy scheme to cope with the inherent limitations of the existing analogy schemes. The new scheme is based on the experimentally observed unique hygroscopic behavior of polymeric materials used in microelectronics; i.e., the saturated concentration is only a function of relative humidity regardless of temperature. A new analogy formulation based on the modified solubility is presented and the scheme is implemented to investigate its accuracy and applicability. The results from a simple case study corroborate that the advanced scheme can be used effectively for package assemblies subjected to general anisothermal loading conditions. DOI: 10.1115/1.2837521

A Note on the Normalized Approach to Simulating Moisture Diffusion in a Multimaterial System Under Transient Thermal Conditions Using

Moisture can have significant effects on the performance and reliability of electronic components. Accurately simulating moisture diffusion is important for designers and manufacturers to obtain a realistic reliability evaluation. Beginning with version 14, ANSYS is capable of simulating diffusion and related behaviors, such as hygroscopic swelling, with newly developed elements. However, a nor...

A geometrical multi-scale numerical method for coupled hygro-thermo-mechanical problems in photovoltaic laminates

A comprehensive computational framework based on the finite element method for the simulation of coupled hygro-thermo-mechanical problems in photovoltaic laminates is herein proposed. While the thermo-mechanical problem takes place in the three-dimensional space of the laminate, moisture diffusion occurs in a two-dimensional domain represented by the polymeric layers and by the vertical channel...

Accurate numerical simulation of moisture front in porous material

When comparing measurements to numerical simulations of moisture transfer through porous materials a rush of the experimental moisture front is commonly observed in several works shown in the literature, with transient models that consider only the diffusion process. Thus, to overcome the discrepancies between the experimental and the numerical models, this paper proposes to include the moistur...

Effect of Moisture on Mechanical Properties and Thermal Stability of Meta-Aramid Fiber Used in Insulating Paper

Seven composite models of meta-aramid fibers with different moisture contents were studied using molecular dynamics simulation. The effects of moisture on the thermal stability and mechanical properties of the fibers and their mechanisms were analyzed, considering characteristics such as hydrogen bonding, free volume, mean square displacement, and mechanical parameters. The simulation results s...

Diffusion Mechanism and Quantitative Measurement of Moisture Transport in Porous Silica Gel Filter Using Dynamic Neutron Radiography Technique

Neutron radiography (NR) can investigate the diffusion mechanisms of moisture transport within the silica gel material. Dynamic neutron radiography (DNR) possesses the possibility to investigate the moisture profile inside the silica gel filter. The technique explained the relationship between moisture movement and time. This study investigated the diffusion mechanisms (absorption and infiltrat...
